Tips From a PDA Kid [Age 9]
🤍 Idea by C, with an assist from Mom 🤍
☆ Don't repeat yourself too much. We don't like too much pressure.
☆ Don't yell when you get mad. It gets us more upset instead of less upset.
☆ It just takes a little bit longer for us to learn to control our feelings. You don't need to tell us all the time that we're doing it wrong.
☆ We are really good at teaching ourselves stuff. It's a lot easier and makes more sense than having another person try to teach us things.
☆ Once I figured out how my brain worked, it was easier to understand how to calm myself down.
☆ No big surprises, please. It's stressful.
☆ When I'm doing something mean because I'm so stressed, part of my brain says, "Come on, man. You're going too far. You don't have to do this." That actually helps me stop myself sometimes, but not always.
☆ I don't always like being PDA. It's hard to feel different.
Interview with a PDA Kid
This is a video from a few months ago when my son, C, wanted me to record him talking about his experience with being PDA autistic.
Like a lot of kids today, he's obsessed with YouTube and wants to create content so badly. But having a safety conscious mom is a major bummer, so he has to settle for audio content only. ❤️
